The Karate Clan was a joint creation by me and my friend Helen (weren't we original with our characters names?) way back in the eighth grade during a difficult time for both of us. These characters (drawn well before "furries" had even had a term--I sometimes think we may have been among the very first furry artists) were our way of escaping into a more pleasant reality. Now they're just fun to doodle when I can't think of anything else.

Helen is a real person, and was the co-author (and, at the time, main illustrator) of The Karate Clan, the fantasy we wrote together to try to forget our horrific realities...Helen was the leader of the KC.
This was my alter ego in the KC. She's Japanese, though this is long before I got into anime. She was SUCH a rip off of Chun Li, yikes.
Based on our friend Pam (we were original, weren't we?) she was the feminine one of the original three members of the KC.
Based on our friend Nikki, who would occasionally contribute both chapters and artwork as well, including the character of Tanya.

A character created by Nikki at first to be a minor villain, Helen brought her back in the story, gave her the personality of Helen's real life cousin Megan, and married her off to my character's brother.
None of the men of the KC are based on anyone in real life. Jon was Helen's boyfriend and, later, husband.
This was Helen's brother in the KC, she was adopted, and Pam's husband.
This was my character's brother--I REALLY played too much Street Fighter at the time!

A character purely of Helen's creation. I'll have to draw him in color sometime, because he had bright green hair and an orange tail.
The theme of the contest was to draw your original furry character with wings of some sort, so I took a tip from the Angel contest that was going on at Silver Moonlight at the time, and made Crissy into an angel. I like the background.
I've known for some time now that my furry style needed updating, but I really need some examples to go by. John showed me this style, so I thought I'd try it, my prismas, and my kimono-drawing skills all at once. Not too bad, but it doesn't feel like "Crissy" to me, at least, not yet.
I wanted to draw something for (real life) Helen's 30th birthday. I thought this would be nice.
